New Mexican restaurant opening in Belleville; another closes in Fairview

 

A new Mexican restaurant in Belleville hopes to be up and running in time for Cinco de Mayo, while another one in Fairview Heights has closed.

 

Last week, owner George Fonrodona said he anticipated his new eatery, Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant at 4311 W. Main St., would be open by today. Fonrodona said he will serve traditional Mexican fare, such as fajitas, chimichangas and margaritas. He also plans to provide 15 percent off for Tuesday's celebration. Meanwhile, Laredo's Mexican Restaurant has closed in the Winchester Plaza shopping center in Fairview Heights, according to a sign on the door. ...

 

In other restaurant news, the Rally's fast-food restaurant in the Carlyle Plaza in Belleville closed suddenly last week. The sign is covered over and the windows boarded up at the burger joint. ...

 

McDonald's has stepped to the plate to give discounted St. Louis Cardinals tickets to customers.

 

Anyone who buys an Extra Value Meal order with a Big Mac, Quarter Pounder with Cheese, two cheeseburgers or a Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese at St. Louis-area McDonald's restaurants will get one of five collectible Cardinals cards that contains a code for a discounted baseball ticket for a game this season at Busch Stadium. The Ticketfest promotion is available through May 25.

 

Each card will feature a Cardinals logo from some point during the franchise's history since 1920. The back of each card will have Cardinals facts along with the code to redeem ticket discounts. ...

First Bank is expanding and growing. The bank's Red Bud branch at 1411 S. Main St. will add seven more hours to its office hours during the week. The lobby will be open an extra hour Monday through Thursday (until 4 p.m.). The drive-up lanes will open a half hour earlier, beginning at 8 a.m., Monday through Saturday and an hour later on Thursdays, until 5 p.m., and Fridays until 6 p.m.

 

The bank also will build a new branch in Chester at 2231 State St. Construction is expected to begin later this spring. And finally, St. Louis-area Lowe's stores have contributed $4.3 million in sales to the 26th annual Muscular Dystrophy Association -- almost doubling the $2.3 million record contribution from a retail grocery store a year ago. The metro area's 23 home improvement stores raised the money by selling $1 and $5 shamrocks. More than 1,600 Lowe's stores from across the country participated.
